Daughters Memorialize Parents with Community Fund Committed, well-informed, community servants --- these words come to mind when describing Ruth and Ray "Jerry" Watson. Ruth L. Watson (below) Ruth was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church, as well as several community organizations, and also was a tutor for Adult Continuing Education through Vincennes University. Jerry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and also was a member of numerous community organizations, including the Gibson County Community Foundation. After Jerry died, the Watson's daughters, Cindy Hiday of Indianapolis and Cathy Harvey of Princeton, looked for a way to exemplify their parents' commitment to their community and Gibson County. They remembered their father's dedication to the Foundation and his belief in the power of endowed funds to benefit the citizens of Gibson County forever. The idea to create a fund was born. ![]() The sisters created the Ray J. (Jerry) Watson Memorial Fund. The fund is unrestricted, which means that Cathy and Cindy have entrusted the Foundation to decide from year to year where the fund's grants can best serve the community. Funds like the Watson Fund allowed the Foundation to grant more than $84,000 to sponsor charitable endeavors in Gibson County in 2003. "Jerry and Ruth Watson were lifetime assets to Gibson County and this fund is a fitting tribute to their memory," said Dan Reeves, president of the Foundation's board of trustees. Ray J.
