Recent Grants

         With the help of the Gibson County Community Foundation (GCCF), 17 nonprofit organizations now have substantial funding for charitable projects and initiatives. On October 3rd, the GCCF's board of trustees announced the grant recipients for the year of 2011.

         The financing of these various projects is made possible by a number of endowed funds established by benefactors in Gibson County. Among these are the Friends of Gibson County Fund, Gibson County Community Foundation Trustees Fund, Melvin Oing Memorial Fund, Ray J. (Jerry) Watson and the Ruth L. Watson Memorial Fund, Toyota Fund, and the recently created Smithville Charitable Foundation Fund. With the grants from these funds, initiatives regarding community development, education, health, human services, art/culture and other civic efforts will be made possible.

 

The GCCF grant recipients are:

 

         1. East Gibson Dollars for Scholars:

            $4,000 will be given from the Toyota Fund for the funding of scholarships for students at Wood Memorial High School. 

         

         2. Princeton Area Dollars for Scholars: 

            $4,000 will be given from the Toyota Fund for the funding of scholarships at Princeton High School.

 

         3. South Gibson Dollars for Scholars:

            $4,000 will be given from the Toyota Fund for the funding of scholarships at Gibson Southern High School.

 

         4. Ronald McDonald House of Indiana:

            $315 from the GCCF Board of Trustees Fund and $685 from the Friends of Gibson County Fund will be given to assist Gibson County families staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana . The total amount granted will be $1,000.

 

         5. Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra:

            $1,000 will be given from the Toyota Fund for the funding to conduct orchestral concerts for Gibson County students in the third through fifth grades.

 

         6. Albion Fellows Bacon Center:

            $1,500 will be given from the Friends of Gibson Count Fund for the funding of the Gibson County Support Group Project.

 

         7. Junior Achievement of SW Indiana:

            $913 from the Toyota Fund and $2,087 from the Friends of Gibson County Fund will be given for the funding of Gibson County classrooms, totaling $3,000.

 

         8. Oakland City - Columbia Township Public Library:

            $856 from the Smithville Charitable Foundation Fund and $643 from the Friends of Gibson County Fund will be given for the funding of the Traveling Art Exhibit, totaling $1,499. 

 

         9. Holly's House:

            $2,500 will be given from the Toyota Fund for the funding of the Think First & Stay Safe - Child Abuse Prevention Education Program.

 

         10. Buffalo Trace Council:

            $413 from the Melvin Oing Memorial Fund and $2,087 from the Friends of Gibson County Fund will be given for the funding for the Healthly Lifestyles Program, totaling $2,500.

 

         11. South Gibson Community Center:

            $10,000 will be given from the Friends of Gibson County Fund for the funding for the Save the Gym Project.

 

         12. Gibson County Council on Aging:

            $1,000 will be given from the Friends of Gibson County Fund for the funding of van transportation costs.

 

         13. Tales & Scales, Inc.:

            $3,500 will be given from the Toyota Fund for the funding of Tales & Scales progams in Gibson County classrooms.

 

         14. Daybreak Advocacy, Inc.:

            $5,000 will be given from the Friends of Gibson County Fund for the funding for the Interview Room Expansion Project.

 

         15. Gibson County Habitat for Humanity:

            $1,287 from the Ray J. (Jerry) Watson and Ruth L. Watson Memorial Fund and $3,713 from the Friends of Gibson County Fund will be given for the 2011 Home Build, totaling $5,000.

 

         16. First United Methodist Church:

            $2,270 will be given from the Toyota Fund for the funding of the Safe Sitter Program. 

 

         17. National Multiple Sclerosis Society - Indiana Chapter:

            $500 will be given from the Friends of Gibson County Fund for the funding of the MS Navigator Project.

"The grants these donors are able to provide through the Foundation will be able to help relieve some of the current needs of our community and truly make a difference in people's lives."

 

Founded in 1993, the Gibson County Community Foundation is a charitable organization formed to strengthen our community by awarding grants to local nonprofits, by bringing individuals together to address community needs, and by offering personalized charitable gift planning services. The Foundation currently manages $4 million in assets and works like a bridge, connecting the needs of the community.
