Troy and Virginia Land Fund
Having spent six years on the board of the Gibson County Community Foundation, Troy Land knew where the greatest need of the Foundation was. When he decided to set up a fund, he chose to set up a fund to benefit the operation of the Foundation. In October of 2008 the Troy and Virginia Land Fund was set up with the proceeds to go towards supporting the Gibson County Community Foundation's operating expenses.
Troy and Virginia Land were married for 32 years when Virginia passed away in August of 2007. Virginia was a lifelong resident of Gibson County and Troy has been in the county for 40 years now. "Gibson County was good to us and we wanted to give back," said Land. "What I like about the foundation is that the funds are perpetual. They are always going to be there to help the community."
Troy and Virginia Land always believed in giving back to the community. When Virginia was alive, she was an ardent supporter of the Salvation Army and a member of that board.
Troy, along with being a member of the Foundation's board, is a member of the Princeton Kiwanis, the Salvation Army board, and the board of the Gibson County on Aging. The activity that keeps him the busiest is being a member of the VFW funeral detail. "We participate in an average of 1 ½ funerals per week."
"Having worked on the Foundation's grants committee, I see how each year the needs in Gibson County change and the foundation responds to these changes in their granting. By supporting the operations, we are making sure that the Foundation can continue its work in the county," stated Land.
