Women's Fund Awards First Grants
Tammy Scheller and Darcy Norton from The Domestic Violence / Sexual Assault
Two local organizations received the first-ever grants awarded from the Women's Fund of Gibson County at its membership meeting on September 28 held. The Women's Fund structure is unusual in that its members are entitled to vote on which of the organizations named as finalists will receive grants based on their final presentations at the membership meeting. Having received the greatest number of member votes, the Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Task Force of Gibson County was selected to receive a $5,000 grant to fund private space where volunteers can meet with victims. The Gibson County American Red Cross received a $1,000 grant to teach new mothers how to perform CPR on their infants and children. "The Women's Fund Advisory Board works hard to recognize the needs of women in our community and find a way to help alleviate these needs," said Barbara Wood, Advisory Board Chair. "For our first year we are very pleased that we were able to give two grants. Our goal is to grow the grant amounts every year and continue to help organizations that serve the women in our community."
